Thermodynamic properties of organic oxygen compounds. Part XIX. Low-temperature heat capacity and entropy of propan-1-ol, 2-methylpropan-1-ol, and pentan-1-ol
Abstract
The heat capacities of propan-1-ol, 2-methylpropan-1-ol, and pentan-1-ol have been measured by adiabatic calorimetry over the temperature range 11–350°(390°K for pentan-1-ol) and the entropies and other thermodynamic properties of the crystals and liquids have been calculated. Two of the alcohols (propan-1-ol and 2-methylpropan-1-ol) readily form glasses when cooled and measurements of heat capacities of the glasses and glass transition temperatures have been made. Residual entropies of the glasses have been estimated. The entropies of the alcohols in the ideal gas state have been calculated from the heat measurements.
