An infrared study of gallium chlorides and bromides in benzene and n-heptane
Abstract
Infrared spectra, over the range 500–200 cm.–1, were recorded for benzene solutions of gallium dichloride and gallium dibromide prepared by the method of Carlston and his co-workers, for solutions of the corresponding trihalides (Ga2Cl6 and Ga2Br6) in benzene and n-heptane, and also for hydrolysed solutions of the dihalides and trihalides. Assignments are made for the gallium trihalides in accordance with previous work and for the dihalides on the basis of a postulated ion-pair structure.
