The thermal isomerisation of hexafluorobicyclo[2,2,0]hexa-2,5-diene to hexafluorobenzene

Abstract

Between 40 and 142° hexafluorobicyclo[2,2,0]hexa-2,5-diene isomerises by a homogeneous gas-phase first-order process to hexafluorobenzene. The rate constant which is given by log k(sec.–1)=(13·22 ± 0·06)–[(27,560 ± 100)/(2·303RT)] is independent of pressure between 0·5 and 6·0 mm. The reaction is presumably unimolecular.
