Carbonyl infra-red absorption of ethyl acetate in ethanol+water mixtures, and in anionic surfactant solutions

Abstract

The i.-r. absorption of the C[double bond, length as m-dash]O group of ethyl acetate in ethanol + water mixtures, and in aqueous surfactant solutions is described. The three C[double bond, length as m-dash]O bands observed in the former system are respectively ascribed to none, singly and doubly H-bonded C[double bond, length as m-dash]O. It is suggested that the three similar bands observed in the presence of surfactant micelles are evidence for the presence of three distinct environments in these systems.
