Continuous dielectric model for hydration of dipolar molecules

Abstract

The theoretical treatment of the preceding paper is extended to the calculation of free energies of hydration of dipolar molecules. The model used is a prolate spheroid, with the charges at the foci. Calculations are made of free energies of hydration of H2O, H2S and H2Se and of certain alcohols and ethers. The agreement with experiment is satisfactory.
