Base-catalysed reactions of glyoxal. Part II. 2,3,5,6-Tetrahydroxypiperazine-1,4-disulphonic acid derivatives

Abstract

Salts of 2,3,5,6-tetrahydroxypiperazine-1,4-disulphonic acid were prepared by the addition of aqueous glyoxal to sulphamic acid in the presence of base. The free acid was not isolated. 2,3,5,6-Tetra-acetoxy-1,4-dinitropiperazine and 2,5-diacetoxy-3,6-dinitrato-1,4-dinitropiperazine were prepared by the action of nitric acid and acetic anhydride on the tetrahydroxypiperazine salts.
