The isolation of an intermediate in the tricyanovinylation of NN-dimethylaniline

Abstract

The isolation of a stable intermediate in an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction involving an amine has been achieved in the reaction of tetracyanoethylene with NN-dimethylaniline. Spectroscopic evidence is presented to support the proposed structure.
