The infrared spectra of some benzimidazoline-2-thiones and benzimidazol-2-yl sulphides

Abstract

The infrared spectra of the benzimidazoline-2-thiones support the thione formulation for these compounds. The pattern of the skeletal stretching bands in the 1400–1650 cm.–1 region differs from that regarded as characteristic of the benzimidazole nucleus. In addition there are strong bands near 1200 and 1500 cm.–1 which may be associated with the presence of the thioamide system. The spectra of these compounds are contrasted with those of some benzimidazol-2-yl sulphides.
