Mixed halides of phosphorus(V). Part IV. Addition of fluorine to phosphorus trichloride

Abstract

The addition of fluorine to phosphorus trichloride leads to the formation of trichlorodifluorophosphorane along with solid ionic chlorofluorides of phosphorus(V), largely [PCl4]+F– and [PCl4]+[PF6]–. The reactions of trichlorodifluorophosphorane with triethylamine and triethylphosphine yield a complex mixture of products.
