The radiolysis of liquid acetonitrile
Abstract
Liquid acetonitrile has been irradiated with cobalt-60 γ-rays, 250 kVp X-rays, and 4 MeV electrons. The major products were hydrogen, methane, succinonitrile, and a solid substance. The effects of total dose, dose-rate, and the presence of free-radical scavengers were investigated. Mechanisms for the formation of the radiolysis products are discussed.
