Fluorosulphuric acid. Part IV. Preparation of fluorosulphates of the first transition series by displacement reactions
Abstract
Anhydrous fluorosulphates of bivalent Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cd have been prepared by displacement reactions in fluorosulphuric acid. They could not be made by neutralisations in acetic acid. The ease of displacement in these heterogeneous reactions is in the order CH3·CO2– > SO42– > Cl– > F–, and not the order of strength of the displaced acid. The stability of cations in fluorosulphuric acid resembles their stability in aqueous solutions. The choice of reactant for displacement reactions is discussed.
