Platinum complexes with unsaturated amines. Part VII. Stability constants for the formation of complexes (ol+)PtBr3, and the thermodynamics of formation of (H2C:CH·CH2·NH3+)PtBr3

Abstract

Stability constants for the formation of complexes of the type (H2C:CH·[CH2]n·NR2R′)PtBr3(R = H or Et; n= 1 or 2) have been obtained in aqueous solution by a spectrophotometric method. It is shown that the stability constants for the bromo-systems are lower than those for the corresponding chloro-systems. Analysis of enthalpy data for the formation of (H2C:CH·CH2·NH3+)PtBr3, however, indicates that the platinum–olefin bond is stronger in the bromo- than in the chloro-complexes.
