Selectivity of carboxylic ion-exchange resin for lanthanide ions

Abstract

On a polymethacrylic acid ion-exchange resin (Amberlite IRC 50) the selectivity for lanthanide ions has been found to increase with decreasing ionic radius. This is the reverse of the order of selectivities found on sulphonic acid resins. Selectivity differences were also greater than on sulphonic acid resins. A polyacrylic acid resin (Amberlite XE 89) showed lower selectivities than the polymethacrylic acid resin.
