Metal oxide trialkylsilyloxide polymers. Part IV. Titanium oxide triethylsilyloxide polymers

Abstract

By the hydrolysis of Ti(OSiEt3)4 in aqueous dioxan at 60° soluble initial polymers [TiOx(OSiEt3)(4–2x)]n were obtained with x in the range 0·1–0·5. Molecular weights were determined cryoscopically in cyclohexane and the linear dependence of n–1 on x is discussed from the structural viewpoint. Thermolysis gave insoluble residual polymers with x in the range 1·29–1·70. These results are compared with those obtained from the hydrolysis of Ti(OSiMe3)4.
