The determination of tertiary hydroxyl groups

Abstract

A method of high specificity is described for the quantitative determination of the tertiary hydroxyl group. It involves the use of the reaction with hydriodic acid to form the alkyl iodides, which are extracted into cyclohexane, hydrolysed and the resulting free iodine determined colorimetrically.
