Chemical reaction and diffusion coefficients in the heat conductivity of chemically reacting gas mixtures

Abstract

The effect of chemical reaction on mutual diffusion coefficients between the components of a reacting gas mixture placed in a thermal conductivity cell has been considered. An analysis of the thermal conductivity data of the system N2O4⇌2NO2 shows that the existence of chemical equilibrium exerts a retarding force on the diffusion process and thereby reduces the heat transfer due to chemical reaction. This retardation is present even when the system is in local chemical equilibrium.
