Heats of mixing of some pyridine bases with carbon tetrachloride
Abstract
The heat of mixing of each of the bases pyridine, quinoline, 2-methyl pyridine, 4-methyl pyridine, 2,6-dimethyl pyridine and 3,5-dimethyl pyridine with carbon tetrachloride has been measured at 25°C as a function of composition. The results for the systems pyridine+carbon tetrachloride and quinoline+carbon tetrachloride show a sign inversion, becoming endothermic at high carbon tetrachloride concentrations. Otherwise, the results are all exothermic and are discussed in terms of complex formation in solution.
