Infra-red absorption of the orthoborate ion

Abstract

The infra-red absorption spectra of the crystalline orthoborates of Co2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+ and Cd2+, in the range 4000–400 cm–1 are presented. The orthoborate absorption frequencies are compared with those reported in the literature. It is found that the observed spectra compare well with those expected from site symmetries D3 and Cs.
