Allenes. Part XII. 1,4-Eliminations from 1-bromoallenes

Abstract

1,4-Elimination of hydrogen bromide from 1-bromoallenes in the presence of either dry cuprous cyanide or cuprous iodide or bromide in NN-dimethylformamide gives alkenynes in good yield. The mechanisms of these reactions are discussed. Under the conditions studied cuprous cyanide and 1-cyanoallenes do not react.
