Studies on the reaction of benzoyl peroxide with NN-dialkyl aromatic amines and other related compounds. Part I. The formation of N-p-dimethylaminobenzyl-N-methylaniline from NN-dimethylaniline
Abstract
Reaction of benzoyl peroxide with NN-dimethylaniline in benzene or acetonitrile yields N-p-dimethylaminobenzyl-N-methylaniline, the structure of which has been proved synthetically. The latter compound, when treated in NN-dimethylaniline with NN-dimethylaniline hydrochloride, readily gives 4,4′-bisdimethylaminodiphenylmethane.
