Molecular polarisability. The configuration of chloromethyl methyl ether as a solute

Abstract

Dipole moments (1·90 and 1·88 D) and molar Kerr constants (21·0 × 10–12 and 23·4 × 10–12) are reported for chloromethyl methyl ether in benzene and in carbon tetrachloride solutions, respectively. Analysis of the experimental data indicate a non-planar gauche-type solute configuration.
