Studies in mass spectrometry. Part IV. Mass spectra of hydroxythiophens and thiolactones

Abstract

The mass spectra of 17 hydroxythiophens and thiolactones are reported and discussed. These compounds fragment in a well-defined manner upon electron impact. In particular, the operation of an ortho effect between adjacent OH and CO2R substituents facilitates substituent location on the thiophen nucleus.
