Cations containing silicon(IV) co-ordinated by oxygen or nitrogen donors

Abstract

1 : 1 Addition compounds of trimethylamine and trimethylphosphine oxide with trimethylsilyl iodide and trimethylsilyl perchlorate have been characterised. On the basis of physical measurements it is suggested that these compounds are ionic. Evidence is given which suggests that the lack of reaction between trimethylsilyl chloride and trimethylamine is due to a kinetic effect. The low-frequency infrared spectrum of the 1 : 1 adduct of trimethylamine with silyl iodide is reported.
