Abstract

Retraction of ‘Ligand assisted Co(II) catalyzed direct C–H alkylation of aryl ketones with diverse alkyl halides’ by Aniket Nigade et al., Chem. Sci., 2026, https://doi.org/10.1039/d5sc09264g.

The Royal Society of Chemistry, with the agreement of the named authors, hereby wholly retracts this Chemical Science article due to concerns with the misassignments of a subset of NMR and GC data, impacting the reliability of the work.

After publication, concerns were raised about the supporting data, and an assessment by a member of the journal's editorial board concurred and concluded that the current experimental results required further validation to fully support the conclusions.

Following discussions with the editorial office, the corresponding author identified inconsistencies in the interpretation of NMR data provided in the SI for a subset of the organic compounds, which were due to oversight by the first author, who accepted full responsibility. The authors clarify that the characterization of the other organic molecules, the catalyst characterization, and the computational studies are correct and remain valid. To allow time to complete further experiments and data analysis, the authors have decided to withdraw the paper and resubmit the manuscript in accordance with COPE guidelines. The authors sincerely apologize for these errors.

Aniket Nigade, Saurabh Vinod Parmar and Vidya Avasare have agreed to the retraction.

Signed: Aniket Nigade, Saurabh Vinod Parmar and Vidya Avasare, 19th March 2026.

Retraction endorsed by Rebecca Campbell, Executive Editor, Chemical Science.
