B10H12(MeCN)2 as a versatile reducing agent and its application in preparing carborane derivatives

Abstract

B10H12(MeCN)2 is an important building block for the synthesis of o-carboranes. In this work, we found that B10H12(MeCN)2 can also serve as a reducing agent for aldehydes, nitro groups and amides. We demonstrated that B10H12(MeCN)2 can work as both a reducing agent and an o-carborane building block in one pot. A cascade reaction was designed and performed to synthesize 5,6-dihydrocarborano [5,4-c]quinoline compounds through a “one-pot, four-steps” pathway.
