Abstract

The combined use of p-CF3BnSe(O)CF2CN and Tf2O provides an efficient reagent system for the synthesis of 4-(cyanodifluoromethylseleno)isocoumarins via intramolecular cyclization/cyanodifluoromethylselenylation of 2-alkynylbenzoates. This approach is postulated to proceed via in situ generation of reactive electrophilic selenonium species from p-CF3BnSe(O)CF2CN under Tf2O-promoted activation.
