Hyaluronic acid-based nanofibrous scaffolds incorporating Nigella sativa methanolic extract with multifunctional antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties for advanced wound healing
Abstract
The present study reports the fabrication and characterization of hyaluronic acid nanofibers incorporated with Nigella sativa methanolic extract (HA/NSME-nanofibers) for potential skin therapeutic applications. The HA/NSME-nanofibers were successfully electrospun and systematically characterized in terms of morphology, mechanical properties, surface wettability, and chemical interactions. The bioactive properties of the fibers, including antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities, were assessed, demonstrating promising multi-functional behavior suitable for wound healing and skin tissue engineering. Incorporation of plant-derived bioactive compounds into biopolymeric fibers provides a synergistic platform for developing advanced wound dressings.
