Metal dilution enabled quantum coherence in a planar Ni(iii) dmit complex

Abstract

Magnetically diluted (TBA)[NixAu1−x(dmit)2] samples were prepared by incorporating Ni(III) centres into an isostructural diamagnetic Au(dmit)2 lattice to reduce intermolecular antiferromagnetic interactions. The diluted complex exhibits slow relaxation, long spin–lattice relaxation and coherence times at 4 K, and clear Rabi oscillations, indicating that planar Ni(III)-dmit complexes can support molecular-spin-qubit behaviour.
