Monocarborane-stabilized iodonium salts enable regioselective B12-iodination of [CB11H12]−

Abstract

A series of highly stable iodonium salts [I(4-RPy)₂][CB₁₁H₆X₆] (R = H, NMe₂, OMe, Me, NO₂; X = Cl, Br, I) were isolated and characterized. These salts exhibit excellent solid-state stability and serve as efficient electrophilic iodinating reagents, enabling selective iodination at the B12 position of the monocarborane anion [CB₁₁H₁₂]⁻.
