Halogen-modulated zinc-based 0D hybrids for high-efficiency blue light emission
Abstract
This paper reports the facile synthesis of zero-dimensional (0D) organic–inorganic hybrid zinc halides: 2ABZnCl2, 2ABZnBr2, and 2ABZnI2 (where 2AB is 2-aminobenzamide). A halogen-modulation strategy was employed to optimize their optoelectronic properties. Notably, 2ABZnI2 achieves a peak photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 40.14%, a 6-fold increase over the Br-based derivative (6.05%) and a 13-fold increase over the Cl-based derivative (2.82%). Structural analysis reveals that longer Zn⋯Zn distances minimize exciton migration and suppress non-radiative losses. The iodine derivative also shows high color purity blue emission and excellent environmental stability. These results, along with successful prototype LED fabrication, demonstrate the potential of these lead-free 0D hybrids as high-performance, eco-friendly candidates for next-generation lighting and displays.
