Size-matching overrides the electronic preference of cation-π interactions in a deep cavitand

Abstract

Here we report that size-matching overrides the contribution of the expected electronic preference of cation-π anchoring in deep cavitand H, leading to preferential encapsulation of electron-deficient aromatics over electron-rich analogues in aqueous media.
