A new, facile method towards the synthesis of asymmetrically substituted secondary phosphines is developed. These are attainable from the reaction of 1,1′-disubstituted polyphosphorus complexes [Cp*Fe(η4-P5R′R″)] (Cp* = η5-C5Me5; R′ ≠ R″ = alkyl, aryl) with LiAlH4.
