Chiral biphenanthrene-diol-based lanthanide cubanes

Abstract

Using chiral 4,4′-biphenanthrene-3,3′-diol as ligands, we constructed two pairs of enantiomers of Ln4 cubane clusters: R/S-Dy4 and R/S-Er4. Their enantiopure nature is confirmed by single-crystal structures and mirrored circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Magnetic studies reveal that R/S-Er4 exhibit field-induced single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour.
