Hydride-mediated ammonia borane dehydrogenation in water by arene–Ru(ii) catalysts revealed through real-time gas evolution
Abstract
Arene–Ru(II) complexes catalyse efficient ammonia borane (AB) dehydrogenation in water at 25 °C, delivering high TON and TOF values. Kinetic analysis reveals pseudo-first-order behaviour on both [Ru] and [AB]; a hydride–Ru intermediate supports the proposed mechanism. The catalysts retain activity over nine cycles, releasing up to ∼3 equiv. of H2 per AB.
