Reversible redox chemistry of disulfide/thiol for aqueous organic flow batteries

Abstract

We demonstrate reversible redox chemistry for protonated pyridyl disulfide/thiol (Dp-PySSPy/p-PySH) in aqueous organic redox flow batteries (AORFBs). The hydrophilic group (H+) endows Dp-PySSPy with super hydrophilicity, thus leading to a reversible discharge capacity of 90 Ah Lāˆ’1. This work broadens the family of organic redox-active materials for designing AORFBs.
