Recent progress of glycomimetics in drug development

Abstract

Naturally occurring carbohydrates and glycomimetics have been extensively studied in the treatment of various diseases in which carbohydrates are the lead compound, as glycomimetics can simulate the bioactive function of carbohydrates and address drawbacks such as the low activity and lack of drug-like properties of the carbohydrate leads. In this synopsis, we summarize the different types of glycomimetics in disease treatment research, emphasizing the modification and chemical syntheses of sugar rings.
