A heterometallic {MnIIINaI}2 coordination compound exhibiting field-induced slow magnetic relaxation

Abstract

A tetranuclear coordination compound was synthesized using a Schiff base ligand [6,6′-((1E,1′E)-((2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diyl)bis(azaneylylidene))bis(methaneylylidene))bis(2-methoxyphenol)] (H2valdmpn) and NaSCN. X-ray analysis reveals a [MnNa]2 cluster with Mn(III) in an elongated octahedral geometry. Magnetic studies show single-ion magnet (SIM) behavior, with slow magnetic relaxation under a 1000 Oe field. This communication reports a rare Mn(III) SIM molecular complex.
