One-pot straightforward access to a cyclometalated acetate platinum(ii) complex exhibiting mechanochromic luminescence

Abstract

A mononuclear cyclometalated acetate platinum complex (ppy)Pt(Py)(OAc) (1) was prepared using a convenient synthetic approach. The target compound was isolated in three different polymorphic modifications, with variation in the number of asymmetric units per unit cell (Z′). The complex possessed polymorph-dependent luminescence as well as reversible mechanochromism upon a ‘grinding–fuming’ cycle, resulting in a total of 5 distinct emission spectra for a single molecular structure.
