Advances in deep eutectic solvent-mediated crystallization: toward green and tunable platforms for pharmaceutical and biomolecular applications
Abstract
Crystallization is a critical unit operation in industry, as it significantly influences the physicochemical properties of substances. In recent years, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have been explored as sustainable media capable of modulating nucleation and crystal growth of various materials. This review presents an overview of recent advances in the use of DESs for crystallization, including their roles in regulating polymorphism, crystal habit and cocrystal formation. In addition, current challenges and future perspectives on the application of DESs in crystallization control are discussed.
