Abstract

Retraction of ‘Biologically responsive, sustainable release from metallo-drug coordinated 1D nanostructures’ by Naohiro Kameta et al., J. Mater. Chem. B, 2013, 1, 276–283, https://doi.org/10.1039/C2TB00101B.


We the named authors hereby wholly retract this Journal of Materials Chemistry B article due to the fact that the paper has incorrect electron microscopy images in Fig. 1, S2, S3 and S6 on the part of the first author, who is affiliated with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).

Fig 1a, S3a and S6a had incorrect scale bars, which were approximately 14, 5 and 5 times longer than the actual, respectively.

Fig. S2a and b should have displayed TEM images of the 1-nanotubes composed of asymmetric amphiphile 1 and the 2-nanotubes composed of asymmetric amphiphile 2, respectively. However, the first author posted TEM images of irrelevant nanotubes that were developed by the authors in other studies.

Fig. S3b and Fig. S6b should have displayed TEM images of the 2L3-nanotubes composed of three components including the asymmetric amphiphile 2, the amphiphile 3(n) and the ligand. However, the first author posted TEM images of 2L-nanotubes composed of two components including the asymmetric amphiphile 2 and the ligand, in those figures.

The authors respectfully retract this paper, because these events were determined to amount to scientific misconduct and the retraction of this paper was recommended by AIST. AIST verified that the first author was responsible for the misconducts and no other co-authors were involved.

The authors were informed about the retraction of the article. Mitsutoshi Masuda, Toshimi Shimizu and Naohiro Kameta agreed with the retraction, the other author has not responded.
