New low transition temperature mixture menthol:salicylaldoxime – a designer solvent for extraction of metal species

Abstract

A new hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent was designed by combining menthol and salicylaldoxime. The mixture has low temperature of glass transition and, additionally, structural reorganization with abnormally long lifetime. The properties of this ligand-containing mixture allow it to be used as an extraction system for metal ions, which was tested with Cu(II).
