Celebrating ten years of Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B and C

Welcome to this first issue of 2023, which marks the beginning of the tenth anniversary year of Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B and C as three separate titles!

The new year provides an opportunity to reflect and look back to 2013, when the Journal of Materials Chemistry evolved into three new journals, aiming to maintain the high impact materials chemistry research associated with the Journal of Materials Chemistry while encompassing a broader scientific range with the inclusion of more interdisciplinary science.

10 years later, we have published over 45[thin space (1/6-em)]000 high quality articles and reviews from over 100 countries and across all areas of materials chemistry, from fundamental to applied research. Led by a stellar team of 50 Editorial Board members across the JMCs, we have welcomed over 150[thin space (1/6-em)]000 authors to our community, and we are tremendously grateful for the support of over 82[thin space (1/6-em)]000 peer reviewers and 182 Advisory Board members. We have also had new additions to the materials family, with Materials Horizons and Materials Advances joining the portfolio, emphasising the importance and breadth of the materials science field today.

While it is important to reflect on the last ten years, it is also vital to look ahead to the next generation of materials scientists. Throughout our history, we have endeavoured to support the rising stars in the community, with recognition of outstanding early career researchers through our annual lectureship, launched in 2010, and showcasing the very best work from promising materials scientists in the annual Emerging Investigator issues. We are delighted to highlight researchers with the potential to influence future directions in the field and look forward to the next ten years of excellent materials chemistry published across the JMCs.

This year, we are excited to celebrate the rich history of Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B and C and encourage you to sign up to our news list to keep up to date with all the activities we have planned. This includes publication of special anniversary issues to recognise and thank members of our community who have been supporting the journals over the last ten years, along with various celebrations at conferences and on our social media platforms (Twitter: https://twitter.com/JMaterChem, Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JMaterChem and WeChat: @RSCChina).

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to our entire community—indeed, many thanks to you: our authors, reviewers and readers, along with our Editorial and Advisory Board members. Your support is vital to the success of the journals, and we look forward to continuing working with you, and an ever growing Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B and C, for the next ten years and beyond!

With our very best wishes,

Anders Hagfeldt, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Materials Chemistry A

Jeroen Cornelissen, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Materials Chemistry B

Natalie Stingelin, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Materials Chemistry C

Michaela Mühlberg, Executive Editor, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B and C
