Greetings from the New Editorial Board Chair

Dear Green Chemistry community,

I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Green Chemistry Editorial Board. It is an honor to follow in the footsteps of my predecessors, including most recently Philip Jessop, whose dedication has contributed to the journal's success over the last 25 years. With 12 years of editorial experience at the RSC, particularly with Catalysis Science & Technology, my passion for catalysis and sustainable technologies drives me in this role.

Our mission is clear: to champion sustainable chemistry and create a greener, more equitable future for the chemicals and energy sectors. The challenges before us are immense, but so too are the opportunities. As the world faces pressing environmental concerns, we stand at a critical juncture to shape the path ahead.

Since its inception in 1999, Green Chemistry has been a stronghold for researchers embracing green and sustainable practices. We have published cutting-edge research, pushing the boundaries of sustainable chemistry, and advancing our understanding of designing chemical transformations with reduced environmental impact.

As the world evolves, so must we. The term “sustainable chemistry” now encompasses a broader perspective on sustainability and societal, economic and policy impacts. It is time for Green Chemistry to adapt and broaden its scope, welcoming diverse contributions from different disciplines and exploring the interconnectedness of environmental, social, and economic factors. The editorial team and I are actively working to invite new members and strengthen expertise on our Editorial Board in these key strategic areas.

Encouraging authors to describe the green foundation of their research and promoting standardized metrics will enhance the credibility and impact of our work. We are developing guidelines to facilitate this process, providing a deeper understanding of our research's impact. Part of this approach will include the introduction of a “Green Foundation” box in all published papers. This box will allow authors to clearly contextualize their work in terms of the green principles applied, the wider sustainability/societal impact and provide metrics to quantify the advance of their work.

Inclusivity is key to our vision. We embrace talented researchers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, building a conceptual foundation centered around sustainable chemical transformations that benefit the environment in the widest sense.

Collaboration with other RSC journals, such as RSC Sustainability, will further our collective impact and elevate the visibility of sustainable chemistry research. This is a joint effort, and we need your support. Green Chemistry will continue to be a community-centered journal, promoting open dialogue and embracing balanced opinions on strategy. We encourage you, our valued authors, reviewers and readers, to actively participate in this endeavor, contributing to a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange.

Next year, as the journal celebrates its 25th birthday, we have exciting plans, including a themed collection and symposium. Stay tuned for more announcements!

With the strong support of the Editorial and Advisory Boards, and the broader community, I am confident that we can steer Green Chemistry towards even greater success. Together, let us unlock its tremendous potential and continue to be a pioneer of green and sustainable chemistry.

While we prepare for future activities, please do keep sending us your most exciting work. I look forward to collaborating with all of you on this exciting journey.
