Abstract

Correction for ‘CCL01, a novel formulation composed of Cuscuta seeds and Lactobacillus paracasei NK112, enhances memory function via nerve growth factor-mediated neurogenesis’ by In Gyoung Ju et al., Food Funct., 2021, 12, 10690–10699, DOI: 10.1039/D1FO01403J.


The authors wish to clarify that the species of Cuscuta seeds were incorrectly identified in this paper as C. chinensis and C. japonica. The correct species should be C. australis and C. japonica. Where the abbreviation CC is referred to, this should read CA. Consequently, sections of text in the manuscript should be adjusted to clarify this error.

In the introduction, the sentence beginning “As potential ingredients…” the phrase “NK112 (NK112), Cuscuta chinensis Lam. seeds (CC) and C. japonica Choisy seeds (CJ)” should read “NK112 (NK112) and Cuscuta seeds”. The sentences beginning “CC is reported to ameliorate scopolamine-induced…” and “CJ was demonstrated to enhance memory…” should read “Cuscuta seeds are reported to ameliorate scopolamine-induced memory impairment, enhance memory in normal mice, and protect synapses in a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.12,13,14” In the sentence beginning “In this study…” the phrase “by mixing NK112, CC, and CJ” should read “by mixing NK112 and Cuscuta seeds”.

In the Materials and methods section, the first sentence on the preparation of CCL01 should be correctly given as “Cuscuta australis R. Br. seeds (CA) were purchased from the Jungdo Herbal Drug Co. Ltd (Guri, Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea) and Cuscuta japonica Choisy seeds (CJ) were purchased from Cheon-ji-ga Herb (Seoul, Republic of Korea).”

In the discussion, the sentence beginning “Similarly, we had…”, “CC, CJ and NK112” should read “NK112 and Cuscuta seeds”. The sentence beginning “Meanwhile, CC annenuates…” should be correctly given as “Meanwhile, extracts of Cuscuta species seeds attenuated scopolamine-induced memory impairment, cholinergic dysregulation, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation.12”. The sentence beginning “These characteristics of CC…” should be correctly given as “These characteristics of Cuscuta seeds are important to alleviate general memory decline with various causes.”
