Abstract
Correction for ‘Extremely high tensile strength and superior thermal conductivity of an sp3-hybridized superhard C24 fullerene crystal’ by Yingxiang Cai et al., J. Mater. Chem. A, 2019, 7, 3426–3431.
The authors would like to clarify that a number of carbon allotropes previously reported including truncated octahedral,1 c6-bcc,2 CA6,3 clathrate VII,4 sodalite,5 KI,6 and bcc-C6 (ref. 7) have the same crystal structure as the structure 3d-C24 reported in the originating article. Thus, the authors would like to add these references. Multiple names are given for this crystal structure because of the lack of uniform naming conventions. In fact, it is difficult to find any connections solely using the above names. Thus, the “SACADA database” (http://sacada.sctms.ru/sacada_3D.php) is noted as a useful resource to consult when new three-dimensional carbon allotropes are proposed.
The Royal Society of Chemistry apologises for these errors and any consequent inconvenience to authors and readers.
