News from Energy & Environmental Science

Welcome to the first issue of 2019. Since being launched in 2008, Energy & Environmental Science has firmly established itself as a leading international journal in the field of energy conversion and storage, alternative fuel technologies and environmental science. The quality of the publications in the journal reflect the exceptional research being carried out by researchers within the field; content is ground breaking, interdisciplinary and truly community-spanning.

As we enter the new year, we continue to look towards future success. This year, Nate Lewis retires as Chair of the Editorial Board, but will continue to provide the passion, drive and dedication to EES that has enabled the journal to successfully navigate many changes in support of enormous growth in the field. To mark this occasion, Nate has written a personal Editorial piece focusing on opportunities for growth in the future in energy and environmental science (DOI: 10.1039/C8EE90070A).

We are delighted to announce that the new Chair of the Editorial Board is Joseph Hupp, and welcome Joe to the leadership of EES. Based at Northwestern University, Joe has contributed invaluably to the energy field as a leader in the area of materials for alternative energy applications and other environmental issues. The entire community look forwards to working with Joe in this new role to ensure the success of the journal in the coming years.

On behalf of all at the journal, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our authors, referees, readers, and Editorial and Advisory Board members for their continued support of, and contributions to EES and wish you a happy and successful 2019.
