Abstract

Retraction of ‘A simple rhodamine-based dual signalling reversible molecular switch for recognition of Al(III) with promising applications for advanced logic operations – ‘OR’, ‘Keypad Lock’ & ‘INHIBIT’ logic function and cell-imaging studies’ by Tarun Mistri et al., Analyst, 2014, DOI: 10.1039/C3AN02255B.

The Royal Society of Chemistry hereby wholly retracts this Analyst article, with the agreement of the authors, due to concerns with the reliability of the data in the published article.

Following publication of the paper, the authors contacted the Editorial office to request a change to the limit of detection because a mistake in the way this had been calculated had been identified. Due to the magnitude of the change requested, the editor consulted with two independent experts who raised some serious and significant concerns regarding the way that the limit of detection was calculated, and it was felt to be inaccurate.

In light of the two experts’ comments, the authors repeated their experiments and provided a further recalculated limit of detection. These new data were reviewed by a member of the Editorial Board but they were not satisfied with the authors’ limit of detection calculation and also raised further experimental flaws.

Given the serious concerns raised over the reliability of the limit of detection calculation, this casts doubt over the validity of the interpretation of the data and the scientific content of the rest of the paper. Accordingly, this article is being retracted to protect the integrity and accuracy of the scientific record.
