On behalf of the OBC Editorial Board and Editorial Team, we welcome you to this first issue of 2012, OBC's 10th year of publication10 years of high quality research and service
Since 2003 OBC has built on its core values of high impact research, good author service and rigorous, fair and timely peer review to grow into one of the leading journals in the field. It's no surprise that just in the last four years the number of authors choosing to publish their research with OBC each year has more than doubled. We would like to thank all our authors, referees and readers for contributing to the success of the journal. As a result of this significant growth in high quality content, OBC has moved to weekly publication in 2012.Associate Editors
Last year we were delighted to welcome two new Associate Editors to the OBC Editorial Board: Jin-Quan Yu (Scripps Institute, La Jolla, US) and Andrei Yudin (University of Toronto, Canada). OBC authors now have a choice of submission routes–to the Cambridge Editorial office or one of our Associate Editors–and full information about these is given in our author guidelines. As well as handling papers for the journal, our Associate Editors join the other members of the Editorial Board in ensuring the high standards of OBC are maintained through a prominent role in the peer review process.Editorial Board changes
In 2011 we said goodbye to four long-serving members of the OBC Editorial Board: Ben Davis, Stefan Matile, Brian Stoltz and Keisuke Suzuki. We would like to thank them for all of their work in their time with the journal and wish them all well for the future. In 2012 we will see new members appointed to the Board, and announcements will be made in due course.Web theme issues
The success of OBC web themes continued in 2011. These web themes pull together online articles published in OBC on a particular topic, highlighting high-profile work in the area to the community. Topics covered in 2011 included Free-Radical Chemistry (in memory of Professor Athel Beckwith), Chemical Biology and Fluorine Chemistry. Look out for more web themes in OBC in 2012, with topics including Foldamers and Organocatalysis (in conjunction with ChemComm).Meet the Editorial Team
Last year OBC Editorial Team members travelled to a number of international conferences, and our Editorial Board members represented the journal at many more. Travelling to conferences offers great opportunities for the OBC team to meet top scientists, see the latest research developments and discuss the journal with our authors, referees and readers. Look out for members of the OBC team at conferences throughout 2012. Amongst the conferences attended by a member of the Editorial Team was OMCOS 16 in Shanghai in July, where the 2011 OBC Lectureship was delivered by Dr Michael Willis (University of Oxford).OBC is also keen to support young organic chemists by providing student poster prizes at selected conferences throughout the year. If you are organising a conference in 2012 and would like us to consider supporting it with an OBC poster prize then please contact us.
