Synthesis of ellagitannin natural products

Abstract

Covering: up to the beginning of 2011

A detailed overview of chemical synthesis approaches to ellagitannins is provided. This unique family of natural products, which belong to the hydrolysable tannin class of plant polyphenols, today features nearly 1000 members that have been fully characterised, from monomeric to oligomeric and complex hybrid structures, many of which display potentially useful biological activities for their development into new pharmaceutical drugs.
