Multifunctional magnetic nanocomposites: separation, photodecomposition and Raman detection

Abstract

We describe a three-step synthesis of Fe3O4/inositol hexakisphosphate (IP6)/Au nanocomposites in water. Considering the magnetic properties of Fe3O4, the interactions of IP6 with both organic molecules and inorganic ions, the photocatalysis by Au nanoparticles of organic molecules, and the surface enhancement Raman scattering activity of the Au nanoparticles, the versatile applications of Fe3O4/IP6/Au nanocomposites are investigated. Fe3O4/IP6/Au nanocomposites exhibit efficient magnetic separation, sensitive Raman detection, and photodecomposition of organic molecules as well as a great capability to remove inorganic ions from water.
